There are many healthy eating and healthy lifestyle blogs out there. But where are the blogs by couples like us? We are an ordinary average husband and wife who have fallen into unhealthy ways. Join us on our journey of bad eating, slothfulness and minimal exercise. We hope that by documenting our eating and exercising habits we will be forced to open our eyes and make some positive changes towards a healthy lifestyle.

Timbits and Coffee
Sandwich time
Jill and Oatmeal
Jill, sticking to my morning oatmeal. I do like brown sugar on it.....
Also had a cup of tea. Jack gulped down half a cup of tea before leaving to take a friend to the hospital. Nothing urgent, a routine checkup.
He just Voxed me that he's at Tim Horton's so I asked for a Chicken Sandwich for second breakfast. Not sure what he's getting but probably a Turkey Bacon sandwich and a Cafe Mocha

Planning Our Meals
Supper |
We'll try to get all of today's photo uploaded tonight! Today Jack and I sat down and talked about trying to eat healthier foods. We wrote out a list of all the foods I cook for dinners, foods we like, and foods I am not allergic to. Then we added breakfast, lunches and vegetables to the list - different recipes we like and so on.
Then I planned our meals for the next few days based on what's in the fridge that needs to be used up - cauliflower, asparagus, baby carrots, parsnips (so many, what the heck will I do with them!!), brussel sprouts and zucchini for example. And I forgot to put the pot roast in the freezer so I have to cook it tomorrow.
Jill's Pizza |
Earlier today I prepped the sweet peppers, onion, zucchini and sausage for toppings on our pizza. The sausage is for Jack, the zucchini is for me. So that's good to go, just have to bake the cauliflower crust and then add the toppings.
I also made a bean salad since Jack said he wants to try eating more beans. Okay, no laughing! It's pretty tasty and I had some for a snack but the photo and my post didn't upload.
Jill's Bean Salad for snack time |
Some of the parsnips and carrots will be used in my Pot Roast because it's going to be in the slow cooker for 8 hours in a gravy with parsnips, carrots and onions. Jack suggested I make cauliflower and cheese sauce tomorrow and we'll have it for lunch but I am tired just thinking about standing in the kitchen for that long! We'll see. I have to teach him how to make a decent cheese sauce! I do have that one extra cauliflower and it won't keep forever....

A Big Breakfast
This morning I made a cheese omelette with sweet peppers and onions. Jack cooked leftover sausage and we had toast - mine was dry, I never add butter or margarine.
Earlier Jack had Oatmeal Crisp cereal, juice and yogurt for his first breakfast. I had 2 cups of tea, Jack had one cup.
I didn't eat until I ate this rather large breakfast!
What's in the Fridge
Ya it's a mess. We're not organized Fridge people. I start off with everything neat and logical but Jack puts things wherever there's a space. Then I get lazy and do the same thing.
So - I had a great plan for this week, made a list of dinners and shopped for the foods needed to make them. And I did - for the most part.
I'd planned 5 meals: Lasagne (1 meal), Pot Roast (2), Chicken Breasts (1), Cauliflower pizza (1). I figured we'd order in one night and maybe go out another.
* Lasagne (did it)
* Spaghetti Sauce (done and frozen for future meals)
* Pot Roast (not done yet)
* Chicken with vegetables and potatoes (did chicken and potatoes, couldn't face making green vegetable)
* Cauliflower pizza (that's why you see 2 cauliflowers in the fridge - one for pizza, one for a side vegetable another night)
Problem is I never plan lunches or breakfasts so that's our goal today - to sit down and plan 7 days worth of meals. All meals.
Wish us luck

Snacks
Jack had an Ice Cream Drumstuck coated with chocolate and nuts.
I wish I could lie and not reveal what I had today for snacks.... two small bowls of coffee ice cream (Hagen Dazs of course) and a cookie.
Had a stressful morning with technical problems I had to solve with websites and blogs and our Smart TV (Samsung LED only one year old)
When I'm stressed, my blood pressure goes UP and I eat. And eat. Oh almost forgot we both had Boston Creme donuts from Tim Hortons today.
Wow. Seeing it in print here on our blog is an eye-opener! Junk food. Unhealthy crap.

Oops
Almost finished my Chicken salad sandwich from Tim Hortons before remembering to take a picture! Jack ate his so fast it was gone before he remembered. He had turkey-bacon.
Snack time
Leftovers
Had my leftover chicken lo mein for breakfast and lunch. Two cups of tea and one cookie complete my food intake today
Breakfast is a little late.
It's 11am so I am late eating today. Got up at 8am but was not feeling like eating. I think this is not a bad breakfast. Probably should have had more fruit.

Food Allergies - Freaking Annoying and Inconvenient!
Jill here. Because I'm tracking my food intake and lack of physical exercise, I thought I should start noting my allergies and other health issues. I have many food allergies ranging from annoying to severe to serious. I have an Epi-Pen.
I'm careful when I go to restaurants. I know what I can eat and what I can't and I stick to safe food items. But even with my super-cautious nature, I can get blind-sided. Today was one of those days.
Breakfast out at a local restaurant we frequent at least twice weekly. I have the same breakfast every time- bacon, eggs, brown toast, hash browns and watermelon (it being one of the few fruits I can safely eat)
Today I had sausage which I've had at this restaurant on previous visits. And I had a huge allergic reaction to something. What, I don't know.
My tongue and throat and mouth inside and out got super itchy, burning and my throat felt thick. It was pretty bad. I have no idea what triggered it! Was it cross-contamination from another food? Was it the sausage? Was it from the spray Jack used on my boots earlier today?
I have many environmental allergies too and have to avoid certain paints, perfumes, sprays, caulking materials, varnishes and so on. Jack took my new suede boots outside to spray them but brought them in to dry. Did that trigger a reaction?
Or that lasagne I made last night! I had a reaction to that too - way too much cheese and the wrong kinds for me. I have a cheese allergy but can get away with mild cheddar and parmesan in moderate quantities. I'm also allergic to tomatoes but again in moderation I'm okay. I was stupid and added mozzarella which I know bothers me! And too much cheese so I had a super itchy mouth and little "hives" on my tongue last night after taking a couple of bites. I told Jack I won't be eating more of it (a no-brainer, right?) so it's gonna be frozen for him to enjoy.
So maybe today my immune system was in high alert and jumped at every little thing? I wish I knew. I'm gonna be nervous to have breakfast there again without my epi-pen handy. Yeah that's another thing. I left it at home.

Lasagne for supper
Lunch for Jill
Stew and my homemade icicle pickles. I have to confess that showing pics of what I'm putting in my body is making me more aware and more thoughtful!
I would not normally bother with my pickles, but I thought it would look better and be healthier if I added them. And as promised, Jack and I will not lie (except about our real names) so if I show a picture of food, I'm eating it!
PS I had tea and one cookie about an hour ago.

Lunch out today.
Had lunch out again today. Onion Rings and a salad for me. Wings and salad for Jill. I figure the salad cancels out the wings and onion rings.

Supper Is a Maybe Affair
Supper tonight was chicken baked in a lemon-chicken broth and baked potatoes. I was going to cook Brussels Sprouts but I was too fatigued and my eye was still painful.
I actually ate only the potato because I had 4 chicken wings left from our lunch out! So I ate them with my potato. Jack is stuffed from lunch so he's waiting for a bit, and might not even eat his.
I forgot to put it in this photo but as I do with every meal, I had my bottle of water. Room temperature. I don't like cold drinks.
Anything that doesn't get eaten tonight I'll save for tomorrow.
